The best way to start off simply is to have the cargo carrier upside down like we have it and bring the two halves together. Make sure it's good and tight and you have separations equal on both ends. They won't be perfect but get them as close as possible. What we'll do next is install our side plates. Make sure you have the logo facing the right way which in our case is upside down for the moment, then put it together. Now we can tighten our bolts down. Now repeat for the other half. Now that we have the basket itself assembled and tightened down, that assures every thing's secure on top. Now we can install the shank and be sure the curved section is facing down towards the ground when installed on the hitch. You simply slide the bolts through, once you have the shank installed and the bolts installed, go ahead and tighten it down. One thing you want to check out before you assemble it is check for spacing here, what could happen if there's too much space between the shank and the frame it could pull this apart when tightened.
